Eskimos is an Off-Broadway musical with a cast of four and a single set – a two-bedroom igloo. The story is loosely based on the movie, “Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner.”
A Black professor and an Eskimo girl named Mishima plan to marry, but first, they must get permission from Mishina’s parents. They travel seven days by dog sled to reach the igloo and find that Mishima’s mother, Paloozy, is supportive but that her father, Joe, stands firmly against it. Joe doesn’t care that Mishima’s husband-to-be is a Black man. In fact, it’s not what he is that bothers Joe at all. But what he isn’t. He isn’t an Eskimo. And that will never do.
The show begins with Paloozy and Joe wrapped tightly in skins from head to toe to keep warm. They look like two tepees inside an igloo.
